Fiskeriverket: Swedish Board of Fisheries
Responsible organisation
(English)Report (Other academic)
Abstract [en]

The Swedish Board of Fisheries (Board) is the government authority responsible for the conservation and exploitation of Sweden’s fish resources. It was established in 1948 and is subordinate to the Ministry of Agriculture. There are at present almost 360 employees working at 14 different locations around Sweden. The Board's head office is in Gothenburg.

The Board conducts research on fish, fish conservation and fishing, and also develops new fishing methods as well as gear. It also prepares proposals for new legislation and long-term management plans. The Board also has overall responsibility for the control and supervision of Swedish fisheries. Moreover, the Board also participates in international work related to fishing issues and negotiations through the EU member states’ common fishingpolicies, as one example.
