Abstract [en]

A second acoustic survey of the Baltic proper, carried out jointly by the R/V "Argos" and the R/V "Eisbär" gives newestimates of the size of the herring and sprat stocks. Methods are discussed and it is shown that corrections forsound absorption are important. Calibration of the equipment is crucial. The relative distribution of both juvenileand adult herring and sprat is described and comparisons are made with the previous survey in October 1978.
